ARTICLES AND REIKI FOR ALL EVENTS

Happy Hearts!!
10th, 11th , 18th May 2010
Happy Hearts Reiki Week took place between 10th and 18th May and was a great success.
The purpose of Happy Hearts Reiki Week was to spread the awareness of Reiki and Mind Clearing Relaxation Techniques as a way to a Happy Heart, Mind and Body and raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation.
Eighty Seven people in total received Reiki and Mind Clearing Techniques over the week. Six Practitioners were involved in the Week. Debbie King (RFI) Marie Flannagan, Uli Schrettenbrunner, Abby Wynne (RFI), Catherine Lawlor and Patricia Sheehan (RFI).
The largest event was for the Staff in St Mary’s Hospital Phoenix Park where we gave Reiki and Mind Clearing techniques to groups of approximately twelve staff on the hour from 10am-5pm. The feedback was great. The Room and the staff were bouncing!
Other participants were Staff of St Joseph’s in Clonsilla, Staff of The Family Welfare Conference Centre, HSE, Staff of FAS Cabra. And Debbie King had a wonderful home of Happy Hearts where she introduced fourteen of her Friends and neighbours to Reiki. They were blown away and never expected to experience what they did. €558 was donated to the Irish Heart Foundation.
Many Thanks to all organisations for giving their staff the time to participate and their kind donations to the IHF. And to the Reiki Practitioners who participated to make it happen and to those who connected to Happy Hearts and sent their energy our way for the week!
For anyone who wants to expand your Reiki, consider once a year having a fund raising event. This is three fold: 1) Sharing your heart, gifts and Reiki. 2). People love to participate for a good cause and may come just to support the cause and get something unexpected for themselves. 3) Your action gets your energy out there to make the difference and let people know what you do.
Happy Heart to you and all you do. Spread you wings and your joy!

The Science Behind Reiki - What Happens in a Treatment?
Independent research by Dr Robert Becker and Dr John Zimmerman during the 1980's investigated what happens whilst people practice therapies like Reiki. They found that not only do the brain wave patterns of practitioner and receiver become synchronised in the alpha state, characteristic of deep relaxation and meditation, but they pulse in unison with the earth's magnetic field, known as the Schuman Resonance. During these moments, the biomagnetic field of the practitioners' hands is at least 1000 times greater than normal, and not as a result of internal body current. Toni Bunnell (1997) suggests that the linking of energy fields between practitioner and earth allows the practitioner to draw on the 'infinite energy source' or 'universal energy field' via the Schuman Resonance. Prof Paul Davies and Dr John Gribben in The Matter Myth (1991), discuss the quantum physics view of a 'living universe' in which everything is connected in a 'living web of interdependence'. All of this supports the subjective experience of 'oneness' and 'expanded consciousness' related by those who regularly receive or self-treat with Reiki.
Zimmerman (1990) in the USA and Seto (1992) in Japan further investigated the large pulsating biomagnetic field that is emitted from the hands of energy practitioners whilst they work. They discovered that the pulses are in the same frequencies as brain waves, and sweep up and down from 0.3 - 30 Hz, focusing mostly in 7 - 8 Hz , alpha state. Independent medical research has shown that this range of frequencies will stimulate healing in the body, with specific frequencies being suitable for different tissues. For example, 2 Hz encourages nerve regeneration, 7 Hz bone growth, 10Hz ligament mending, and 15 Hz capillary formation. Physiotherapy equipment based on these principles has been designed to aid soft tissue regeneration, and ultra sound technology is commonly used to clear clogged arteries and disintegrate kidney stones. Also, it has been known for many years that placing an electrical coil around a fracture that refuses to mend will stimulate bone growth and repair.
Becker explains that ‘brain waves' are not confined to the brain, but travel throughout the body via the perineural system, the sheaths of connective tissue surrounding all nerves. During a treatment, these waves begin as relatively weak pulses in the thalamus of the practitioner's brain, and gather cumulative strength as they flow to the peripheral nerves of the body, including the hands. The same effect is mirrored in the person receiving treatment, and Becker suggests that it is this system, more than any other, that regulates injury repair and system rebalance. This highlights one of the special features of Reiki (and similar therapies), that both practitioner and client receive the benefits of a treatment, which makes it very efficient.
It is interesting to note that Dr Becker carried out his study on a world-wide array of cross-cultural subjects, and no matter what their belief systems or customs, or how opposed to each other their customs were, all tested the same. Part of Reiki's growing popularity is that it does not impose a set of beliefs, and can therefore be used by people of any background and faith, or none at all. This neutrality makes it particularly appropriate to a medical or prison setting.

“REIKI TOUCHING LIVES” FIRST NATIONAL REIKI CONFERENCE. 4th February 2007
The First National Reiki Conference “Reiki Touching Lives was held on Sunday 4th February. Over 200 people attended. With 19% of the attendees from Mainstream Health, shows a growing interest in Reiki as a supporting complementary therapy to Mainstream Health. Our Chairperson Brigid Maher welcomed everyone and then Dr Mary Upton (TD) opened the event with how a balanced lifestyle is so important to health and well-being. Followed by Dr Brendan Fitzpatrick who spoke about how Mainstream Health and Complementary Health do not have all the answers. By knowing the boundaries, scope and limitations of each practice, we can provide a much better service for patient care. Lua McIlwraith spoke about how she facilitated a series of Reflexology Complementary Health lectures in the Royal College of Surgeons, again showing an interest in Mainstream Health and Complementary Health working in partnership.
Ann Hayes, Director of Services Lios Aoibhinn Cancer Support Centre, St Vincents gave a very interesting presentation of how they have integrated Touch Therapies into their Health Care system and the differences between “To Cure from the outside” and “To Heal from the inside”. Deirdre Ruane, Clinical Nurse Hospice Raheny has started some research and also presented preliminary findings.
Maura Mc Ginley Registered Nurse and Reiki Teacher presented recent research in the area of Energy work. However there is a need to complete larger studies to support the requirements of Mainstream Health. It would be beneficial for us all to look at what we record and maybe in the future collate our own data as RFI.
Rachael Conlon, Deirdre Dolan gave an informative demonstration of a Reiki Treatment. And just before lunch approximately 100 people received a mini Reiki Treatments on chairs. It was absolutely fantastic.
After lunch Mary Kennedy presented an informative lively talk on Reiki Works For You and your Animal Friends. Followed by Patricia Sheehan who presented how Reiki is been taught in schools and the great benefits to students as a life skill for relaxation and coping with life stresses. Next was Cathriona Duffy with her inspiring story of Reiki With Heart Children Ireland. Her story touched the hearts of many. Mari Roddy talked about how she uses Reiki with Acupuncture and then Catherine Smyth talked about using Reiki with Reflexology. The diversity of speakers shows the versatility of Reiki and its’ uses.
Maura Mc Ginley gave an informative update in the Regulation Process, Then we finished the day with Reiki for the general public and Reiki share for Reiki people. Kelley Birmingham kept the whole day flowing with her wonderful humour, lightness and confidence introducing all of our speakers.
It was absolutely a super day. The RFI Working Committee lead by our PRO Patricia Sheehan organised this event and are all delighted with the day. The energy and enthusiasm of the speakers and the participants was flying. The event has made a real mark and raised the level and credibility of Reiki and RFI. The feedback from participants has been really positive. What Participants have said: Blown away by the Day, Brilliant Day, Inspiring Speakers, Brilliantly organised, Great Variety of Speakers. Very Professional, I have a more informed view of Reiki and am excited about the regulatory body, Concrete information on Reiki and Great Atmosphere,

Newspapers and Newsletters.
What made the National Reiki Week so special and successful
was that the seed and vision was planted, however it quickly
became a Reiki Community Week. The inertia, enthusiasm, love
and support from all of you made this week happen. The energy
generated from people, just knowing it was National Reiki Week,
even if it was someone reading a poster had an impact on the
Reiki given during the Week. As a result of the National Reiki
Week one Hospital and one Hospice that I know of, are considering
introducing Reiki into their care system, as one of their Complementary
Therapies.
Thank you to everyone who supported National Reiki Week in
thought, word or deed.
Just for one week......
"Thank you for making a difference to people's lives, creating
community spirit and bringing awareness of the power of the
energy within, while supporting the People In Need in your area."
A special thanks to Marie Williams, who took on co-ordinating
the project towards the end. I really appreciated her love,
support, energy and time.
National Reiki Week 2005!!
I would love to have a National Reiki Week next year. I’m aware
that many of you who would have liked to participate this year
but couldn’t, would like to participate next year. In addition,
the feedback from the Venues is that they would love to have
the same event next year.
It would be great for National Reiki Week to grow. What we
need is a support team who will work together. The groundwork
and template is there to work on and expand for next year. It
would be great to have 6-7 People across the country, who are
interested in running with the National Reiki Week for 2005.
The 2004 National Reiki week was started by one person and organized
within three months. Think what we could create with 6-7 people
on a Support Team and a little more time!!!
I would appreciate if you could contact me if you would like
to be on the National Reiki Week 2005 Support Team. The challenge,
connecting with people and making a difference is invigorating
and great fun. It will involve a meeting in the Autumn, to set
up what needs to be done, and then each person setting up teams
in their area to run events.
ps: If anyone has some interesting stories from the National
Reiki Week 2004, I’d love to receive them.
The very best of love, light & abundance to you.
Thank you.
Best wishes
